Fire Station Still Set Up at BMW Park

North Jakarta Fire Handling and Rescue Sub-dept. remains set up the fire station in the area of BMW Park area, Papanggo, Tanjung Priok.

It used to be an ex-landfill, thus it radiates heat chemically that triggers a cloud of smoke from garbage piles

"We do the rotation system, as the land is the ex-garbage disposal. If the firefighter is alerted permanently, they will prone to the gastritis, acute respiratory infections (ISPA). Moreover, the dust is very thick," expressed Satriadi Gunawan, Head of North Jakarta Fire Handling and Rescue Sub-dept., Monday (11/13).

Those are assigned to prevent fires on the ground under which there is a lot of garbage piles. Chemically, the land generates heat and from the soil or used garbage piles give off thick smoke.

The fire station is equipped with fire trucks with a capacity of 4,000 liters. There are 5-6 personnel who each day alerted in the post for 24 hours. "It used to be an ex-landfill, thus it radiates heat chemically that triggers a cloud of smoke from garbage piles," he uttered.

In the meanwhile, North Jakarta Fire Handling and Rescue Sub-dept. Post Team Head, Catursasi Hari Asmoro added, currently fire intensity is much lower than when the area is controlled.

"Since the land is flattened, the volume of fire or smoke in the BMW Park is greatly reduced. Mostly it occurs once a month and even then start rarely because of intensity rain," he stated.

Based on the field, Monday (11/13), there are five heavy equipments used to flatten the soil mound, especially on the east side or close to the Cilincing Reservoir. While on the east and south side, there are still found garbage piles.
